Determine your own life

I thought the above photo/quote that I found on the internet actually

summarized pretty well what I wanted to talk about in this post.  And while

I have no idea who wrote it other than it was on a website about “wheel

questions” and “deep thinking” it 100% hits my point.

So that’s it…thanks for reading!

No I’ll go into a little more detail….

I was reading a book where it was a story about this old man who was 95

years old and had just gone on a 25 mile hike in the mountains that morning.

The author of the book said to the people who he lived with “why doesn’t

somebody tell him not to do that?!” and they explained that he can do it

so why should somebody tell him not to.

The author realized this old man lived in the mountains of Mexico where no one

had ever told him to go live in a nursing home because “that’s just what old

people do.”

The author realized that in life if you set your own expectations and not what

others tell you then you’ll be surprised at what you can accomplish.

So I say determine your own life don’t let others put in front of you a ceiling

that you can not go above.

This means to me that every day we are told by the internet, our family,

strangers, the news to do the following sorts of things:

1) Join facebook because everyone is on there

2) Retire when you are 65, not before or after

3) The economy is struggling so be nervous

ETC ETC ETC

I am not here to tell you to not care about your loved ones, friends,

co workers, or everyone else on this Earth when making your goals and

aspirations in life but I will say don’t let anyone else pre determine them for you.

If you want to retire at 50 years old and be a missionary the rest of your life

then do it.

If you want to own your business and work until you the day you die then go

do it.

Climb Mount Kilmanjaro and then go directly to Mount McKinley on a holiday

weekend…climb them.

Too many times in life people don’t find their true and absolute potential b/c

everyone else is telling them they have to buy a house b/c the market is down,

or get a job out of school b/c that’s what you do.

Forget that…

Set your own goals and go be GREAT.

Don’t settle for anything else.

If you do you may find yourself disappointed in the end…

So go climb your own mountains tomorrow when everyone else told you those

mountain summits were unreachable.

All GREAT companies do this…if they didn’t they wouldn’t continue to exist.

All GREAT leaders in all industries and aspects of life do this or they wouldn’t

be so stinking great at what they do.

So go determine what you want to do…large or small…short term or long term

and make it happen.
