Where is everybody?!

In the book that I recommended on my last post, Attention by Jim Kukral, I read

a chapter on a marketing idea that I thought was pure genius and wanted to

share it with the WORLD WIDE WEB!

A man in charge of numerous different minor league baseball teams over his

life did a promotion called “Nobody Night.”  They held a huge tailgate party outside

the minor league ball park and not one person entered the stadium until the game

became official after the 5th inning.  (I’m sure the fans were rowdy and loud too

once they entered after about 3 hours of tailgating and booze.)

The promotion was such a huge success that it was covered in all local media and

received huge attention around the league.  Beyond that though he had a local

business man in Charleston where the promo was (the team was the Charleston

Riverdogs if you are interested) walk into his office the next day and write him a

check for $50,000.00 DOLLARS to be the title sponsor of the next Nobody Night.

$50,000.00!!!!!!!!!

By the way they also set the record (breaking the previous record of 1) for the

lowest attended baseball game ever so they are in the record books too.

Ideas are out there…

Be creative, smart, and feed your brain and they will come!

On a side note if I were in charge of new promotions and event ideas for a team

that I think would be great would be……

MAGNUM PI NIGHT!

-Ticket prices for the night are the same as they cost back in 1987 at the height

of the show.

-Grow your moustache out like Tom Selleck (Sponsored by Gillette so everyone

can shave them after the game.)

-Get a few of the B or C list actors from the show and have them come out to the

stadium and throw out the first pitch, do the 7th inning stretch, etc.

-Everybody gets a free Hawaiian Shirt (Local clothing company sponsor)

-Luau in the parking lot for a tailgate party before the game complete with

hula dancers and the awesome food that accompanies it. (Kroger, Meijer, Pepsi,

Anheuser Busch could all be tied in I am sure.)

-Grand Prize: Sell an auto dealer in as the title sponsor and give away a two year

lease on a Red Ferrari just like the one Selleck cruised in during the show!

If anyone can forward this to the Yankees Marketing Director and tell them it was

my idea and I would be happy to help implement I would appreciate it!
