Vegas Baby Vegas.
Those famous words were uttered by Vince Vaughn as Jon Favreau and him saw
the shining lights as they drove in from LA to Vegas in the
early 90s in the cult classic “Swingers.”
It made me realize when I was just in Vegas how much that city has been able
to transfrom itself over the years.
What started as a gambling town and the birth of the Rat Pack in a desolate part
of the country so the gangsters had a place to lay low from the cops in NYC
has steadily changed with the times and ages.
Old Vegas is still there but Vegas is no longer just a mecca for gamblers,
gangsters, and strip clubs.
It now boasts more great high end restaurants than any other place in the
country.
It is home to big businesses such as Zappos Dot Com and thriving up and coming
Venture Capitalist firms.
Vegas is home to an outgoing group of adventure seekers with Lake Mead,
white water rafting, hiking, and camping just a tear drop away out of the city.
Las Vegas was nothing in 1940, now it is one of the biggest economic cities
in the country behind NYC, Boston, LA, and Chicago.
What Vegas has done is the ability to constantly transfrom itself and change
with the times.
Our country right now is in the midst of one of those transformations, as small
businesses can now compete with global conglomerates because of social media.
As we figure out how to stop giving failing business models money we must
learn the new ways of business and Las Vegas is certainly a great role model
for our country to learn how to change with the times.
The casinos are still a draw, but it is the shows, business, performers, and
dining that have made it what it is now today and will continue to make it
succeed over the coming decades.
Richard Florida wrote a recent book called the Great Reset that I think outlines
a path that our country must take to stay on top of all industries and Las Vegas
is one of those places leading the charge.
Transform today and be successful tomorrow that is the solution that we must
follow.
Las Vegas has…
Now it is time for the rest of us to do the same!!!
