Decision Making Plus Execution Equals Final Results

Brutus vs Rufus

I think Vince McMahaon just put a bid in for them to square off again at the

Royal Rumble in 2011.

For a quick recap for those unaware, Rufus the mascot from the Ohio U Bobcats

tackled Brutus the Buckeye before the Ohio State Ohio U game last Saturday in

Columbus.

It turned into a big to do, the OU Bobcat Rufus was in big trouble and he was

banned from further affiliation with OU.  It turned out he wasn’t even a student

and that was a big to do.

Here are my thoughts on it…

GOOD IDEA!  Talk about getting Attention for yourself and your university.  OU

had tons of press from this that they wouldn’t have gotten and was a pretty

funny stunt.

HORRIBLE EXECUTION AND DECISION MAKING RUFUS!!!!

He picked a horrible time to do it, while the players were genuflecting so the

YouTube video now now shows players taking a knee and getting ready to pray

while this mascot tackles another mascot.

It could have been funny and good hearted…maybe he ran up after the national

anthem and shadow boxed him.

Then again that probably wouldn’t have gotten the attention it did on ESPN,

Fox Sports, newspapers, youtube, and social media.

And it was not good attention for him, he was banned from his job and comes off

kind of looking like a DIP.

He had a good funny idea with horrible execution of it and it lead to while huge

media attention a negative vibe and not the famous stature he was most likely

striving to achieve.

Life and business is about making the right decision but then thinking about how

you will go about executing the decision you made and that will lead to the final

results and how you are judged moving forward.

Sorry Rufus you lose on this one…just like your Bobcats did once the game

started!

Before you start a new marketing program for a client or you do one for your own

business or suggest one to the boss go through this process.

I try to and it helps lay the foundation for success or nix an idea if it doesn’t

follow the right plan.

And one other lesson: DON’T MESS WITH BRUTUS EVER HE’S THE MAN!!!
