Being a teacher of your business

Vince Lombardi is regarded by some as the greatest coach of all time in our

sports world.

I can probably agree with this.

What most people don’t know right away about Coach Lombardi though was

his first gig was a school teacher and coach at St Cecilia High School.

He went from high school coach to Super Bowl winner in about 20 years, while

being turned down for head coaching jobs numerous times.

One thing that I have read about Lombardi though was at St Cecilia how

he realized he needed to have extra patience with his kids to teach them

plays, strategy, schemes, and overall the game plan as football coach.

He saw so many coaches not give that extra fifteen minutes to simply

explain to a kid something that was so easy and simple for him to understand.

I think that was one of his biggest underlying keys for success and is something

that we can all apply to our everyday lives and jobs.

We may think we do…

But sit down and think about it…

The last time you had a customer who didn’t understand your product, did

you get frustrated?

Did you quickly explain and skim over some of the important details b/c you felt

that everyone should understand your business?

Auto dealers, insurance people, media sales reps, engineers….

I can remember working with all of these people and at times not being given

the extra fifteen minutes to be explained why I needed new to add collision

to my car or get high mileage oil once my car reached 75k.

I figured out on my own…

But to really go above and beyond in our jobs and businesses…make sure you

think like Coach Lombardi did and go that extra fifteen minutes with your

customers.

Really explain to them why you are saying what you are saying and why it

matters to them.

You will become more trustworthy and you and your clients will build a deeper

and more connected relationship.

And if they don’t listen…you can always just yell and scream it to them at the

top of your lungs like LOMBARDI did!!

Enjoy this great day everyone…and the weekend as well. CARPE DIEM!
