My wife and I recently returned from an amazing 7 day trip to the Dominican
Republic at the Majestic Elegance All Inclusive resort in Punta Cana.
It was AMAZING!
Top to bottom from the food, cocktails, beaches, excursions, bell boys,
airport shuttles, and maids service was top notch.
So yes I highly recommend staying at this place but what I want to write about
is something our tour guide told us when we were headed to the Dominican
mountains to go Zip Lining. Two Thumbs Up to Enrique and Antonio for not
getting us killed driving there by the way.
Antonio told me that “Tourism” employs the #2 highest amount of people in their
country and is also responsible #1 in revenue.
So it made me think…
This little country in the middle of the ocean and in the Caribbean…surrounded
by plenty of other choices in the Caribbean…relies so much on our (meaning
the tourists of the world) business to keep their country churning.
In a country that small #2 for jobs and #1 in revenue is a big money maker.
I also noticed how some excursion companies and resorts “sponsor” schools
down there. It is basically their way of giving back to the country. I began
to read and found out that the government of the DR (for short) has made a huge
push on the tourism and to boost it there.
I have been all over the Caribbean…to Jamaica, the Bahamas, St John, St Thomas,
Belize, Guatemala, Mexico, etc etc.
But I have NEVER seen top to bottom service and dedication of an entire country
like this in my entire life.
This country has essentially decided together to work and brand their tourism
as the best in the Caribbean and make you want to come back the second you
leave.
I have not one complaint about the entire trip and every single worker there.
Not only at the hotel but the city workers who made sure the beaches were
clean every morning.
They were polite, upbeat, and funny.
Think about the job that this country and this government has undertaken.
Of course there are reasons why they are doing this. If not they could very well
be Caribbean country overtaken with poverty and on its way to extinction.
Instead they are creating a brand for themselves that could carry generations
beyond them and keep their kids, grand kids, and great grand kids with jobs and
a sense of pride in their country.
The lesson you could learn from this is…
IT IS POSSIBLE TO CREATE A BRAND FOR YOUR BUSINESS.
With every single employee in your entire organization.
If the Dominican Republic can brand their entire country as the place for
Caribbean vacations whatever you wish your business to be you can do it too
with dedication, talent, positive and uplifting work places, and a sense of pride
that no one else in your industry has.
Thanks for a great VACA Dominicans…and who thought they only played
BASEBALL!?!?!?
Thanks for reading everyone…be back soon. Sorry it’s been a while…lots on the
plate the past few weeks but no excuses. I know people need fun mike marketing
stuff. HA (Insert Joke)
